(Jonathan J. Wallace)
Inspired by Joel Thompson’s Seven Last Words of the Unarmed and Joseph Haydn’s Missa in tempore belli. The Red Cross, representing neutral aid, sits on top of and among a graffiti-like cacophony of words pulled from both musical pieces. Negative space, created by taping techniques, creates a stained-glass window effect, further highlighting both a divine presence and absence. Splattering techniques are heavily used in this piece as a means to reference an intense release of emotions and the bloodshed of unarmed Black individuals across the world.
