Artwork by Jonthan J. Wallace
Inspired by conversations had with members of the Commonwealth Youth Choir and Melissa Dunphy regarding hopes, fears, and the reality of climate change. The centerpiece, affectionately named “The Burning Globe,” was created by gluing Individual pieces of paper that were cut from an abstract watercolor piece, using “earth” colors like deep ocean blue and forest greens, layered with gold shimmer and fiery tones. These pieces were then singed and layered into a connected, yet separated, circular shape – set overtop a sickly-yellow background. This piece exists in an unfinished form – eventually, the artist will work with CYC members to adorn the background with their own words - after all, it is the younger generations of this earth that will be inheriting a climate crisis for which they did not ask.
